Missing or damaged teeth can make us feel self-conscious of our smile, and for many people restoration is essential for improving their confidence. Restorative dentistry is also important from a medical point of view. When teeth are lost the empty space in the mouth could lead to other teeth shifting and becoming misaligned. Plus, broken or missing teeth could inhibit healthy oral hygiene habits and lead to a build-up of plaque which contributes to tooth decay.
Fillings are incredibly common restorative dental procedures. They involve removing any decay from a tooth cavity before filling it with a durable material that will prevent the tooth from decaying any further. Sometimes crowns are used to treat severe cavities, and these can also be used to repair broken teeth. They are placed over the tooth like caps to strengthen and protect the tooth.
Bridges and implants are used to replace missing teeth. A bridge has a crown on each end to anchor artificial teeth in place in a gap. An implant is an artificial tooth attached directly into the gap via a metal anchor. Both implants and bridges look and feel just like natural teeth so that you can feel completely confident in your smile.
